The Academic College of Tel Aviv-Yaffo
The Academic College of Tel Aviv-Yaffo (MTA) is a non-profit public institution with a clear mission statement: to provide quality education as part of a larger drive for social change.
Located at the heart of Jaffa, a mixed city of Jewish and (Muslim and Christian) Arab residents, which lags behind Tel-Aviv in every socio-economic criterion. MTA is primarily committed to serving the socio-cultural periphery in Israel, while respecting different communities' culture and heritage. At MTA we do so by looking at diversity as a resource, and working through dialogue with—not for—the community.
MTA was founded in 1994 by the Municipality of Tel-Aviv-Jaffa, Tel-Aviv University, and the Council of Higher Education in Israel, and pioneered the national model of Academic Colleges,
as an institution committed to addressing national educational priorities - closing attainment gaps in particular - by providing academic education at the heart of the country's social periphery, in optimal learning conditions, while upholding uncompromising academic standards.
The College is both a teaching-oriented institution, and a generator of social action in service of its immediate community - in Jaffa (Yafo) and southern Tel-Aviv - and underserved groups in Israel more generally, and is a champion of academic, social and inclusive excellence.
