About information systems management

 

Technology in modern life wraps us all around, accompanying us everywhere we go, all day long, regardless busy with personal affairs at home or at work. Today, for businesses to succeed in the fierce competition in the marketplace, the combination between information systems and technology is a prime requirement. Using computers, communications, the internet, smartphones and tablets is vital to all businesses and across all industries, including entertainment, medicine, banking and finance, production, retail and so forth, whereas hi-tech enterprises and startups in particular are based on these technologies.
With increase in usage, comes the demand for skilled and knowledgeable people in the fields of management, and technologies development. A demand for professionals whom understand the needs and requirements of the organization, as well as those of clients and suppliers and, are able to translate these needs and requirements into information systems based on the most apt and advanced technologies.

All organization big and small, global and domestic in the public sector as well as the private sector, employ information systems personnel, holding various skill and in different positions.


Undergraduate degree in information systems - the program


 The program combines two disciplines - technology and computer sciences, and business administration and economics. The program's main objective is to educate and teach students how to advance, improve, and support businesses using technology, notwithstanding the competition. In order to achieve this goal choosing the best solution, students must be familiar with both disciplines.


The information systems management program is a multi-disciplinary program, training students in various types of technology, a range of activities as well as providing them with the skill and ability to adapt to continuous change.

   What students get, in order to achieve these goals:

  • Profound basic training in the areas of computer sciences and management
  • Tools introducing students to the field of innovations, providing them with the a ability to confidently lead changes and  advance innovations
  • Management competences, leadership and decision making
  • Practice and experience in teamwork
  • Tools providing ongoing independent study, notwithstanding eternally advancing technology and everlasting changes overtime

The program emphasizes on teaching modern and up-to-date subjects such as cloud computing, mobile computing, social computing, cyber threats, web and mobile (Android) development, BI, data mining and more.

 

Independent Study Courses


 One of the program's basic principles is independent learning. Therefore, the program includes a number of pre-defined courses for independent study.
These courses include:

Seminar: an academic research-based paper
Project: addressing information systems analysis and characterization
workshop: focusing on developing a practical solution, service or product


Operating principles for Independent study:

  1. The student initiates, manages and leads with adherence to timelines
  2. The student precisely defines the work process and products
  3. The student carries out the work independently, guided by a professional instructor from the industry


The linkage between the program and the industry in Israel 

The program interacts and collaborates with various enterprises in the Israeli industry

·         The program is closely associated with STKI a leading market research and strategic analyst firm, specializing in IT infrastructure, headed by Dr. Jimmy Schwarzkopf

o   Academic collaboration with renowned companies as SAP – carrying out a unique ERP course based on SAP Academy and led by Munich University

·         Spotlight gatherings – leading companies meet with students toward graduation/alumni with the intention to connect and recruit

·         Connecting students with prominent instructors and mentors from the industry for their independent learning projects

·         Presenting students' projects at end of semester events, the audience including industry representatives

 

Certification

  • Graduates acquire a BA degree

  • The program is recognized by the Israel Chamber of Information Systems Analysts. Alumni may register with the organization once they have graduated

  • The program prepares student for the PMI certification exam (project management)

  • The program prepares student for the SAP certification exam

The program consists of four course clusters. The two basic clusters are computer sciences, and management and economics, the computer sciences cluster providing for specialization in the discipline.
The independent study cluster provides scholars with the opportunity to deepen their knowledge and understanding in different schools of thought thus developing independent learning skills. Self-directed and through the elective courses and seminars, students focus on different areas of practice such as  SAP and design, and web-based products development.
