    קיבל את הדוקטורט שלו מאוניברסיטאת חיפה בשנת 2005, ולאחר מכן נסע לתקופה ממושכת לאוניברסיטת קוניטיקט שבארצות הברית. בשנת 2009 הצטרף לסגל הבכיר של בית הספר למדעי ההתנהגות שבמכללה.

    פרופ' סאמר חלבי עוסק במחקר בתחום הפסיכולוגיה החברתית, הוא בוחן תהליכי פיוס בין קבוצות ויחסי עזרה, וחוקר כיצד משפיעות תפיסות סטריוטיפיות בתחום הבריאות. פרופ' חלבי הוא מרצה אורח באוניברסיטת ייל ובאוניברסיטת פרינסטון שבארצות הברית ועמית מחקר במכוןInCHIP  שבאוניברסיטת קונקטיקט.
